Incert-S

What is?

Incert-S is a bioabsorbable, chemically modified hyaluronic acid material.

What for?

Incert-S is used to act as a barrier to prevent tissue adhesion and scarring following spinal (also cardiac, pelvic or abdominal) surgery. Such adhesions can lead to recurrent back pain, and cause difficulty in re-operations. Adhesion prevention products are designed to minimize post-operative adhesions, usually by creating a mechanical barrier between internal tissues and organs. Incert-s has been designed for spinal operations such as discectomy or laminectomy.

How does it work?

Incert-S is produced through altering the properties of hyaluronic acid. Thus, it has longer duration in the body than hyaluronic acid itself.

What are the pros and cons?

Many previous adhesion barrier agents have been shown to be ineffective. There is no enough clinical studies showing that Incert-S is effectual.

How to apply?

The gel-like substance is applied to the incision site prior to surgical closure.

Who produces it?

Anika Therapeutics, Inc.

Bedford, MA 01730
