Maastricht University Departments of Neuroscience and Neurosurgery PhD Position


The departments of Neuroscience and Neurosurgery of Maastricht University have a PhD position available for the duration of three years. Our research group is part of the European Graduate School of Neuroscience (EURON) and focuses on the neuronal mechanisms of electrical brain stimulation (deep brain stimulation) of basal ganglia targets in clinical and experimental neurological and psychiatric disorders (PNAS, 2007;104(43):17087-92./ Curr Biol 2008;18(10):412-14). We are seeking a highly motivated student to work on the behavioural, electrophysiological and neurochemical effects of deep brain stimulation of basal ganglia structures in a transgenic rat model of Huntington’s disease. Position is available starting March 2010.
Applicants are encouraged to apply from any area of biological and psychological sciences. The applicant should ideally have a strong interest in experimental work and innovative research, and should be hard working, creative and independent. Our department offers a young and motivated team, excellent methodological expertise, multiple international collaborations and a stimulating first class scientific environment.
